JOIFF - The Organisation for Emergency Services Management

About the JOIFF Training Programme
Through its Training Standards Committee, JOIFF has developed a series of training courses and programmes based on the highest current levels of knowledge and competence relevant to the sector in which the training will be carried out. Courses/programmes are specifically directed at hazard management / fire safety / emergency response staff providing protection to Industry and Commerce and they are carried out at JOIFF approved training establishments and also on company sites, usually in modular form. All JOIFF accredited training is under the supervision of JOIFF approved instructors. JOIFF accredits course/programme content, instructors/assessors and the site at which the training takes place. JOIFF accredited training can be carried out at accredited training establishments and on a company's own site.

Each person who satisfactorily completes a JOIFF accredited training course / programme receives a JOIFF Certificate of Competency. All JOIFF accredited training is audited to ensure that it is consistent with the agreed JOIFF syllabi, site and instructor/assessor requirements.

Competency Based Certification
JOIFF Training is Competency Based Training, which is designed to provide Continuous Personal Development (CPD) for all Students. After initial training has been satisfactorily completed, competency based training certification can only be maintained by the regularity of a robust and auditable on-site training programme augmented as necessary by suitable practical Firefighting and other Courses at JOIFF accredited training establishments.

JOIFF Accredited Training Establishments
JOIFF accredited training establishments are chosen because of their excellence of facilities, Instructors and Instructional techniques. For the names of the establishments currently JOIFF accredited, contact the JOIFF Secretariat.

On- Site Training
Recognising the advantages of on site training, JOIFF has developed a system of competency based training to be carried out on site, either to train new recruits or to act as an on-going station training programme for experienced firefighters. The competency based training portfolio is made up of units and elements and allows core competencies to be included in a site specific training programme.

The JOIFF training programme includes a recommended training path for all levels of emergency responders where training takes place primarily on the company site using the company equipment, supplemented with specialist support by training courses at JOIFF accredited training establishments. Utilising this system of modular training is a most cost effective form of training emergency response teams. This on site training programme has been developed to offer a path to the award of United Kingdom National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) for the Fire Sector which are recognised Worldwide. All current Fire Sector NVQs are JOIFF accredited. The JOIFF Training Programme also includes demonstration of on-going maintenance of currency of competence.

The JOIFF Training System incorporating the Competency Based Training Portfolio:
  • Offers Internationally recognised qualifications
  • Allows accredited training at your own time and at your own pace and
  • The training is up-to-date, clear and easy to understand
Audit Trail
Records must be kept of the training received by each member of the emergency response team, full time and part time. Each member of the emergency response team should have a portfolio of all training undertaken and be able, by questioning, to demonstrate that they are competent in their particular role. The new on-site JOIFF Competency Based Training Portfolio is the perfect method of keeping records and of tracking Learners’ progress.

The JOIFF accredited Personal Development Programme
The JOIFF Training Standards Committee have accredited a Personal Development Programme for Emergency Response personnel which provides a path for development throughout the career of an Emergency Responder.
