1 dead, 4 unconscious after gas leakage at chemical company
A worker died while four others were left unconscious after hydrogen sulphide ga-s leaked in Prasol Chemicals company at Mahad MJOC in Raigad on Thursday morning, The workers were ex posed to the vapours. One of them was rushed to a city hospital for treatment. The hydrogen sulphide vapour started leaking at around 8.45 am from a storage tank. The leakage was monitored by experts and was reported in the safety zone.
Total 30 employees were on night duty. The police said the company has claimed that the manufacturing was stopped from Wednesday but inquiry is on, The deceased worker has been identified as Akhil Singh { 24), a resident of West Bengal. While among those left unconscious, one Santosh More was rush ed to a hospital in Mumbai, and others including Pravesh Thakur, Jndrajit Patel (35) and Pankaj Colas (27) are being treated at Ansari Hospital-Mahad and are out of danger. Mah.ad MJOC police assistant inspector Maruti Andhale said, “The situation is under control and the required safety measures have been taken besides guarding the area.”
A worker union president Chandrakant Oeshmukh alleged, many such incidents have been reported in the past, various women from the vicinity have protested as well. However, no punitive action has been taken against the
company’s management, The police have booked the company staff for causing death by negligence, causing grievous injury, negligently handling poisonous and explosive substances endangering life and with common intention.
