USA – Ammonia Leak at Coffeyville Plant Sends Several to Hospitals
An ammonia release at the CVR Nitrogen Plant in Coffeyville on Saturday afternoon prompted a large emergency response and sent numerous people for medical treatment.
Company Statement and Investigation
CVR Partners confirmed that the incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Oct. 11. The company said several individuals were taken offsite for evaluation and that an investigation is underway to determine what caused the release. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
Emergency Response
Multiple agencies responded, including crews from Coffeyville, Independence, Caney, Tyro, and Cherryvale. KGGF reported that helicopters were also deployed to assist in transporting patients.
Medical Impact
Initial information indicated that at least 15 people were exposed to hazardous conditions and received medical attention. Because Coffeyville Regional Medical Center reached capacity, patients were taken to hospitals in Independence. No details have been released on the severity of the injuries.
