SINGAPORE – Responders Contain Fire on Evergreen Container Vessel

A fire aboard a container ship at Singapore’s port was successfully contained on Friday 10th of April, with no injuries reported and no disruption to port operations.

The incident involved the Ever Lenient, a UK-flagged container vessel with a capacity of about 9,500 TEU, owned and operated by Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine Corporation. The ship was docked at PSA Pasir Panjang Terminal when a fire broke out in cargo containers on board.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was alerted to the situation at around 3:00 p.m. Emergency response efforts were led by the Singapore Civil Defence Force, with support from PSA Singapore and the MPA. Firefighters worked through the night to bring the blaze under control, eventually extinguishing it completely.

All crew members were accounted for, and no injuries were reported. After the fire was put out, teams carried out cooling operations to prevent any chance of reignition. The MPA also deployed drones to monitor the vessel, while patrol boats established a safety zone around the ship to support ongoing response work.

Authorities confirmed that port operations continued as normal throughout the incident. An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the fire.
