ARGENTINA – Massive Industrial Park Fire Near Buenos Aires Brought Under Control

A series of explosions at an industrial complex in Ezeiza, about 40km from Buenos Aires, sparked a massive fire late on Nov 14. Dense black-and-orange smoke rose over the area, which is located near Argentina’s busiest international airport, prompting concern among nearby residents.

Immediate Impact
The blasts shattered windows, caused light damage to homes and buildings, and spread panic throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Twenty-two people were taken to hospital with mostly minor injuries; among them were a heart attack patient and a pregnant woman suffering from breathing difficulties. Most injured individuals were discharged shortly after receiving treatment.

Official Statements and Safety Measures
Civil defence director Fabian Garcia confirmed on Nov 15 that the blaze had been contained, meaning it was no longer expected to expand beyond its current perimeter. He emphasized that although the incident was intense, it never posed an uncontrollable threat to the broader population.
Authorities monitored air quality throughout the night. Smoke particles were detected at concerning levels, Garcia said, but not high enough to constitute an extreme health danger.

Damage to Industrial Facilities
The affected industrial zone hosts factories producing tires, chemical goods, and other products. Local media reported that around five factories had been damaged by the explosions and fire, at least one building had been completely destroyed.
