BANGLADESH – Five injured in Gazipur warehouse explosions, including firefighters
Five people, among them four firefighters, were injured after two explosions rocked a chemical warehouse inside a garment factory at Tongi’s BSCIC Industrial Estate in Gazipur on Monday afternoon.
The blasts occurred around 4:30 pm in the Sahara Market area. According to officials, the injured include Fire Service officer Jannatul Naeem and firefighters Md. Shamim, Md. Nurul Huda, and Md. Joy Hasan. The fifth victim, a factory official, has not yet been identified. All were taken to a Dhaka hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the first explosion triggered panic as workers and others rushed outside. While firefighters battled the blaze, a second chemical drum exploded, causing injuries to the factory official and four fire personnel.
Seven Fire Service units were deployed to the scene. Abdul Mannan, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service (Dhaka Zone-3), confirmed that three of his men were hurt during the response. He added that the fire has been largely contained, though the source of the explosions and the extent of property damage remain under investigation.
