CHINA – Eight Dead After Explosion at Biotech Company in Northern China

A biotechnology company founded in June 2025 is at the center of an investigation following a deadly explosion that killed eight people, according to official reports.

The company, Jiapeng Biotechnology, conducts research involving animal feed, coal-based products, and construction materials, based on corporate registration information.

The blast took place early on Feb 7 in Shuoyang, located in Shanxi, in northern China. The facility is positioned in a mountain hollow, where thick dark-yellow smoke was seen rising from the scene after the explosion.

State news agency Xinhua reported that authorities have detained the company’s legal representative and established a local accident investigation team to determine the cause.
