CHINA – Sinochem Shuts Quanzhou Crude Unit After Fire Incident
A fire at Sinochem’s Quanzhou refinery in southeastern China has led to the shutdown of one of its main crude-processing units, seven market sources said on Friday 14 November.
According to state media, the blaze occurred on Thursday at the refinery’s No. 1 crude unit, leaving seven people injured. The report referenced a statement issued by the industrial park where the complex is located.
The Quanzhou refinery has a total processing capacity of 300,000 barrels per day and was already preparing for a full plant maintenance shutdown scheduled from late November or early December through January, three of the sources noted. The affected No. 1 crude unit accounts for 240,000 barrels per day of the refinery’s total capacity.
In addition to crude refining, the complex produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and polypropylene. Sinochem’s official website also lists an ethylene production capacity of 1 million metric tons per year at the site.
