Explosion at Italian Gas Refinery Leaves Two Dead, Nine Injured

An explosion at a gas refinery near Florence, Italy, claimed the lives of at least two people and left nine others injured on Monday, according to local authorities.

Four individuals remain unaccounted for following the incident at the facility operated by ENI, one of Italy’s leading energy companies.

The blaze triggered by the explosion has been brought under control, the Calenzano municipality confirmed.

In response to the accident, the regional Department of Civil Protection issued a safety advisory for residents within a 5-kilometer (3-mile) radius. The notice urged people to “keep windows closed and avoid approaching the area.”
