Fatalities and Injuries Reported in Fire at Private Refinery in Southern Iran

In a tragic incident on Thursday, one individual lost their life while three others sustained injuries due to a fire outbreak at a private oil refinery situated in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, as reported by the official news agency IRNA.

The fire erupted around 11:00 a.m. local time (0730 GMT) when one of the furnaces at Aftab Oil Refining Company caught ablaze, stated Hossein Zafari, spokesperson of Iran’s National Disaster Management Organization, according to IRNA.

Zafari noted that the fire has been successfully brought under control, and the injured have been promptly transported to a medical facility within the city. An investigation into the cause of the incident is currently underway, he added.

According to IRNA, the furnace was in the midst of undergoing repairs when the fire broke out.

Mojtaba Moein Vaziri, director general of Hormozgan province’s cooperatives, labor, and social welfare department, revealed to the semi-official Fars news agency that the deceased individual was 38 years old.

Vaziri further highlighted that several safety advisories had been issued to the refinery unit prior to the unfortunate incident.
