An explosion at a refinery operated by MOL, Hungary’s largest oil and gas company, killed one person and seriously injured several others on May 22. The incident occurred at the company’s facility in Tiszaújváros and triggered a major fire.
According to Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, emergency services responded quickly following the blast. Energy Minister István Kapitány and MOL CEO Zsolt Hernádi were reported to be traveling to the site to assess the situation.
Local reports indicate the explosion happened while the plant was undergoing a restart process. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze soon after it broke out, though crews remained at the facility as recovery operations continued.
