INDIA – 10 Dead, 23 Injured in Boiler Explosion at Vedanta Power Plant in Chhattisgarh
A boiler explosion at the Vedanta Limited power plant in Singhitarai village, located in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district, left 10 people dead and more than 23 others injured on Tuesday 14th of April, police officials said.
According to preliminary reports, the blast occurred in a boiler tube at the plant during the afternoon. Soon after the incident was reported, local police and administrative teams rushed to the site and immediately began rescue and relief operations.
The injured workers were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while rescue efforts continued at the scene.
In an official statement, the company described the incident as unfortunate and said the explosion took place in one of the boiler units at its Singhitarai facility on the afternoon of April 14. The affected personnel were reportedly employed by NGSL, a subcontractor responsible for the operation and maintenance of the unit.
The company further stated that its immediate priority is to provide the best possible medical assistance and treatment to those affected. It added that full support is being extended to the injured and that it is working closely with medical teams and local authorities. A detailed investigation has also been launched in coordination with its partner and the relevant authorities.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described the incident as “extremely distressing and heart-wrenching.” He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured that the district administration is overseeing rescue and relief work at a rapid pace.
He also stated that a thorough and impartial investigation would be conducted and that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible.
