INDIA – Rewari Chemical Factory Fire Triggers Explosions, Six Workers Injured

Six workers sustained injuries, including two in critical condition, after a major fire broke out at a chemical manufacturing unit in Rewari district’s Bawal industrial area on Monday afternoon. Authorities confirmed that all employees inside the premises were evacuated safely despite multiple explosions that followed the blaze.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. at a factory located in Sector 5, where nearly 200 to 300 workers were reportedly present at the time. Thick smoke and intense flames quickly engulfed sections of the facility, causing panic among workers and nearby residents. Witnesses reported that smoke from the factory could be seen from almost 10 kilometres away.

Officials said the fire escalated rapidly because of inflammable chemicals stored within the premises. Repeated explosions were heard from a considerable distance, worsening the situation and complicating emergency response efforts.

Preliminary findings indicate that repair work was taking place at the factory’s chilling plant when an explosion may have sparked the fire. The flames soon spread across a large part of the unit, increasing the difficulty of controlling the blaze.

The injured workers were taken to a nearby government hospital for treatment. No fatalities had been reported at the time of the latest update, according to district officials.

To tackle the emergency, fire brigades from Rewari, Jhajjar, Bahadurgarh, Faridabad, Palwal, and neighbouring areas of Rajasthan were deployed. Fire officer Sanjay stated that nearly 35 fire tenders were involved in the operation. He added that a portion of the building collapsed after the flames intensified, making it difficult for rescue teams to access certain areas beneath the debris. Rewari Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Meena said forensic experts had been called to determine the cause of the incident.
