IRAQ – Fire at Baiji Refinery Leaves One Dead and 13 Injured in Northern Iraq

On Monday 9 February, a new accident occurred when an air compressor exploded, sparking a fire inside the gasoline upgrading unit of the refinery. The incident happened in Salahaddin province and resulted in one death and 13 injuries.

All injured individuals were refinery employees and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Emergency medical teams were immediately mobilized and placed on standby following the explosion Salahaddin 2 refinery unit.

The incident was reported from Erbil in the Kurdistan Region. The fire brigade managed to bring the fire under control. No significant impacts on the operation of the unit were recorded. The explosion occurred inside the air compressor system.
