Report Detail:

Fire Truck Crash

Thanks to J&RA Hawkes for passing on these shots of a recent E-One crash.  It serves to remind us all that the object is to get to the incident safely, however, the inevitable will happen from time to time (it did with one of our fire trucks on Teesside in 1985 running a red light - the driver and officer being very lucky to be alive today - neither was wearing seat belts) make sure the truck you purchase has full cage protection for the occupants.  Also insist that your crew members wear set belts when attending an incident.

Here is great proof that what we say about our cab is true.  This accident happened Thursday the 12thJune 2003, Pumper 35 was responding to a house fire about 12:30 AM when a car went through an intersection and was struck by Pumper 35.  The front of the car was destroyed, Pumper 35 veered off and ran into a bridge abutment at an approximate rate of speed of 40mph.  All four occupants of the truck were taken to the hospital, one remained in the hospital over night for observation as he was ejected from the truck, (seat belts are put there for a reason).  The occupant of the other car was treated and released and was ticketed for failure to yield and running a red light.
