RTA Chlorine Leak Results in 3 Deaths

Initial Email Enquiry –

Reported earlier this week in transport incidents - concerns from relatives at the lack of emergency response action during the event.

Here is an interesting article about a recent Chlorine leak and the fact that some victims were unable to be rescued for several hours causing more serious injuries and deaths of two persons in their homes from the Chlorine fumes. There of course is not a lot of specific information as to why a rescue couldn't be made. But as I teach my Hazmat responders, Fire and EMS is go,go,go and Hazmat is slow, slow, slow!! If someone in the San Antonio area that was a part of this response could fill us in on some details that would be much appreciated.

The article states that the train conductor died and two people that lived in the area of the release died. This is certainly tragic, but I wonder how many people were saved by the actions of the responders on scene by evacuation and putting a response plan in place?
