Email Enquiry Safety Alert Dangerous Gas Cylinders

Initial Email Enquiry –

Thanks to a representative from BP Saltend for passing on this shared learning.

I was informed today on this safety alert on six recent incidents of malicious tampering of compressed gas cylinders throughout Europe. A Safety Alert from the European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA) is also attached. Many of the cylinders were intentionally mislabelled and retrofitted with incorrect cylinder heads (criminal act). Using one of these cylinders, as labelled, could have resulted in an explosion. Thus far, all of these cylinders have been discovered by reputable industrial gas refilling stations, without injury. We recommend that all people who might be confronted to such a situation be informed. Additional checks should be performed when receiving and handling gas cylinders.
