Chemical and Emergency Response Information

1. ATSDR ToxProfiles 2003 (ATSDR)
CD-ROM: To order a free copy of the CD-ROM, contact the ATSDR Information Center at (888) 42-ATSDR ((888) 422-8737) or e-mail requests to [email protected]

Download: The profiles are also accessible on the ATSDR Web site at www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxpro2.html. ToxFAQ's and Public Health Statements on each chemical are also available in .pdf format from the same site.

The information in the ATSDR ToxProfiles 2003TM CD-ROM focuses on health effects from exposure to specific hazardous substances, as well as other toxicologic and epidemiologic information. Each profile is peer-reviewed and includes an easy-to-read section on public health information in non-technical language.

The CD-ROM contains 161 toxicological profiles and nine interaction profiles, that cover more than 250 total substances and make toxicological information more accessible and convenient for health care workers, toxicologists, occupational health physicians, public health personnel, communities, and ATSDR's environmental health partners.

The ATSDR ToxProfiles 2003TM CD-ROM includes:
  • Five draft profiles, including three updated profiles, ammonia, copper, PBBs/PBDEs (polybrominated biphenyls/polybrominated diphenyl ethers) and two new profiles, chlorine dioxide and synthetic vitreous fibers.
  • Seven finalized profiles that were previously "draft for public comment" profiles, aldrin/dieldrin, beryllium, creosote, DDT, DEHP (di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate), hexachlorobenzene and methoxychlor.
  • Four additional draft interaction profiles.

3. Chemical Hazards Response Information System (CHRIS) Manual (USCG)
CD-ROM: E-mail request to [email protected]. or mail your request to: Commandant (G-MSO-3), U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, 2100 Second Street, SW, Washington, DC 20593

5. Chemicals on Reporting Rules Database (EPA)
Download: www.epa.gov/docs/CORR/
(Note: The website indicates a database program like MS Access, dBase, or Foxpro will be required.)

6. Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) Database (EPA)
Download: www.epa.gov/iris/stand-al.htm
(Note that updated stand-alone files can be downloaded quarterly. Requires 29MB of disk space when expanded.)

7. Minimal Risk Levels (ATSDR)
Download: ATSDR Minimal Risk Levels (PDF Doc.)
(Note: www.atsdr.cdc.gov/mrls.html clearly indicates that "MRLs are not intended to define clean-up or action levels for ATSDR or other Agencies").

8. NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards and Other Databases CD-ROM (NIOSH)
CD-ROM: Request DHHS (NIOSH) Publication No. 2002-140, June 2002 from 1-800-35-NIOSH or [email protected], or use online form at www.cdc.gov/niosh/email-pubs.html
Download stand-alone NPG (none of the other databases shown below):

As with 3 very successful editions of the same title (publication numbers 99-115, 2000-130, and 2001-145), the June 2002 edition retains all of the popular databases:

  • Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health Concentrations (IDLHs)
  • International Chemical Safety Cards (WHO/IPCS/ILO)
  • NIOSH Manual of Analytical Methods (NMAM)
  • NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards (NPG)
  • OSHA Sampling & Analytical Methods
  • Recommendations for Chemical Protective Clothing
  • Specific Medical Tests Published for OSHA Regulated Substances
  • Toxicologic Review of Selected Chemicals
  • 2000 Emergency Response Guidebook
  • NIOSH Certified Equipment List as of March 31, 2002
In this edition, new OSHA methods and International Chemical Safety Cards have been added, and other useful tools and references have been included for the first time. Also for the first time, 1,375 archived records (i.e., no longer being updated by NIOSH) from the Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances (RTECS) database can be accessed from the NPG and the International Chemical Safety Cards. Because this number represents only a small portion of the database, RTECS is not being listed as one of the databases in this CD-ROM publication.
