Evaluation Decisions in a Chemical Air Pollution Incident

Initial Email Enquiry –

A very interesting paper has just been published in the British Medical Journal regarding benefits of sheltering-in-place over evacuation during chemical incidents. It has to be said that shelter-in-place option is dependent on the specifics of the incident but should be considered as the default option until the appropriate risk assessment is done that would indicate the need to initiate an evacuation.

A typical example of this is if there is imminent danger of a catastrophic explosion, in this situation the benefit of immediate evacuation may outweigh the possible risk of exposure.
