Flammable Liquid Storage

Initial Email Enquiry –

I am looking at putting a standard together for the Intermediate storage of flammable and combustible liquids in warehouses and outside storage areas. Rather than me trying to invent the wheel, I was wondering if any of the members could help and share any standards or documents that they may have. I would be grateful for any help!

1st Response –

I find that the HSE Fire Safety Employer's Guide (ISBN 0-11-341229-0) Part 3 is a good guide for inside & outside warehouses.

2nd Response –

If "outside" storages include atmospheric storage tanks, you can refer to the "Liquid hydrocarbon tank fires" booklet published by BP and the Intitution of Chemical Engineers (see attached leaflet) as a complement of Industry standards.

3rd Response –

Not sure if you are familiar with the following documents which should prove useful:

  • HS(G) 51 The storage of Flammable Liquids in Containers ISBN 0118855336
  • HS(G) 140 The safe use and handling of flammable liquids ISBN 0717609677
