Priolo, Sicily. ERG. ERG group shut down its 160,000 bpd refinery ISAB Impianti Nord at Priolo in Sicily following a fire. There was no immediate information on the fire's impact on the refinery's production or any damage to a nearby 240,000 bpd ISAB Sud refinery, which was shut down for maintenance. ERG's ISAB Impianti Nord refinery supplies the petrochemical industries with feedstock and also produces semi-finished and finished products for the Italian market and for exports. Office of the provincial governor in Syracuse said the fire did not cause any deaths, but seven fire fighters have suffered injuries and two of them have been taken to hospital, one with heavy burns. Two of the three original fires had been put out and the remaining one was under control with fire fighters waiting for an oil storage that had been feeding the flames to burn out, the governor's office said. Priolo's mayor advised local people to stay indoors while civil defence experts checked if a heavy black smoke produced by the fire was toxic.
