I hope the JOIFF members can help.
I am looking for any documents compiled by the BU’s regarding “working at heights”. I would appreciate it if you could share your research/info/standards to me. I trying to determine what is accepted and what isn’t in the JOIFF group. For instance. Do you require people to work on ladders? Or is a ladder only used to get from one level to another (think about Electricians changing light bulbs in offices or insulation people). Must people hold step ladders (A-frames) or is that reserved for straight ladders? What is the maximum height you would allow a ladder to reach. Some can go as high as 10 metre’s!!!!!! Do you allow people to walk on pipe rack’s? or must a scaffold be built or do you erect life lines? I know in most places its not permitted but lets be honest with ourselves, a lot of people are seen walking on pipe racks and roofs etc without the right Safety conditions being met. If you have a written directive, please share.
The reason I ask is that there are a lot of conflicting idea’s about what is right and wrong and its causing a lot of confusion amongst our contractors at the moment .
Please note that this excludes Scaffolds as I am sure we are all aligned on Scaffolding (…but I may be wrong)
