One person died and another eight were injured when a fire system turned on automatically in a bank in the city of Podolsk outside Moscow, Russia's Central Bank said in a statement. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning. More than 70 people were evacuated from the building when the fire system suddenly turned on and released chemical agents used to extinguish fires from natural gas. "Nine people became victims of the accident," the statement said, adding: "One died, five are in intensive care, including a police officer, and three [others] have been hospitalized." According to information from the Russian Emergencies Ministry, 13 people were injured.


The cause of the system failure is under investigation.
