ABB Engineering Services have produced a series of technical bulletins to share good practice and learning within the process industries.

The main philosophy is to provide technical information and guidance that practising engineers and managers would find useful. Ideally we would like to share learning and experiences, ours and yours, from around the world, in a way that will not draw attention to a specific company, so getting away from the various litigation issues and other sensitivities. By acting through this independent channel we can all share our learning responsibly and anonymously!.

We are all aware of the impact of Buncefield in 2005 where due to a loss of primary containment an explosion and fire ensued. Thankfully, there was no loss of life. One of the main learning points highlighted the importance of secondary and tertiary containment. This Specialist provides recent guidance covering containment applicable to fuel storage facilities but also more generally to COMAH sites.
