Fire-fighters evacuated nearby residents and have since brought the fire under control.  Three of the eight injured people have been released from hospital, while another two with more serious injuries are still receiving treatment.
According to the Sonya Bureau of Environmental Protection, the refinery explosion didn't cause any water or air pollution.

[Lui Huajun, Songyuan Bureau of Environmental Protection]:"According to the investigation, waste water was not discharged and did not cause pollution of water sources. Air quality remains at safe levels and no pollutants were found in air monitoring results from the surrounding area."

Evacuated residents started to return home on Monday afternoon. The cause of the blast is still under investigation.
