Kingfisher County authorities in Oklahoma, US, are searching for a person who fired a bullet into an oil storage tank, causing an explosion and fire on 29 January. Chief Randy Poindexter with the Kingfisher Fire Department said, ‘After we put the fire out, and during the investigation, we realised we had a bullet hold about six foot up off the ground in the tank itself.’ The bullet pierced the tank just above the fluid level, where the vapours collect, and that caused the explosion.

Chief Poindexter said, ‘People get bright ideas and take a shot at them. This is the first one I’ve ever seen that it exploded after being shot.’ The explosion did quite a bit of damage, blowing the top off the tank and sending it 80 yards away. It also scattered gas pipe around the surrounding area. After receiving aid from a few different agencies, fire-fighters were able to put the fire out within a matter of minutes.
