The collapsed fuel tank at the former Mobil refinery at Port Stanvac. The above story reminds us that hot work on storage tanks can result in a fire if the tank has not been fully de-inventoried and cleaned.

Fire crews are mopping up after a blaze in a redundant fuel tank at the former Port Stanvac oil refinery site, south of Adelaide. The Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) said the blaze, on Refinery Rd, was now extinguished At the height of the blaze, the MFS warned motorists to take care because smoke was impeding visibility, but it said there was never a danger to the public. Fire-fighters sprayed foam onto the tank and had to wait for it to cool before declaring the blaze fully extinguished.
