Subject:         Malta – Shell Ensure Competence of Fire-fighters as Essential Training Objective

Date of Email report:  Tue 10/06/2014 08:04

Report Detail:

Responder competence must be ensured as part of your holistic barrier protection and overall fire mitigation philosophy.  Are you ensuring your fire responders have the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their duties fully and well?  Will you be able to pass scrutiny by the regulators if they start to dig into your training records? Make sure you have JOIFF accredited training.  For a full list of venues and courses speak to Alec Feldman: [email protected]

A team of twelve firefighters from Shell‘s Majnoon oilfield arrived at the International Safety Training College (ISTC) in Malta this week for an intensive training programme.  The group was accompanied by Mr. Bernard Carter, a senior manager at Shel Iraq, who will be observing the training and filming the practical exercises, which utilise large heavy-duty props and real fire scenarios.

Andrew Gilravey, College Director at ISTC Malta, said:

“These are the first of many courses that the firefighters will attend in Malta. The courses are part of a package that will raise the level of the firefighting teams of Majnoon, up to a standard that conforms with European, UK and NFPA (American) prerequisites.”
