Subject:         Mexico - Pemex, 9 injured in refinery tank fire

Date of Email report:  Thu 24/07/2014 05:46

Report Detail:

Nine workers were injured when a gasoline storage tank at the refinery operated by state-owned oil giant Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, in Ciudad Madero, a city in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, burst into flames, officials said Wednesday.  Two workers suffered "slight burns" and seven others had to be treated for dehydration and exhaustion, Pemex said in a Twitter posting.  "We carried out the fire control and suppression work at a gasoline storage tank at the Ciudad Madero refinery," Pemex said.  The Internal Emergency Response Plan was implemented as soon as the fire started at the refinery on the Gulf of Mexico, the state-owned energy company said.  Ciudad Madero emergency services personnel helped control and extinguish the fire, Pemex said.
