The following video clip shows the potential dangers of transporting hazardous goods by road.

We have seen many rail incidents of late, however, here we see what can happen on the road if due care and attention are not observed.  Note the speed, the congestion and the proximity of vehicles to each other on this busy highway.  In the first video you will see the initial event, in heavy traffic the driver appears to veer to the left (was this due to fatigue, lack of concentration, was it due to heavy braking and avoidance of traffic in front?)  and following the accident the driver can be seen making his escape over the central reservation – one lucky chap!!!

There were reported to be 119 LPG cylinders on board the truck.  In the second video clip (watch to the end) you will witness many BLEVE events as cylinders fail in the heat of the fire presenting projectile fragments of partial cylinders due to tearing apart of cylinders from BLEVE, other full cylinders rocketing due to valve failure.  Near the end see the police approach too close and have to make a hasty retreat following further cylinder releases.  The incident occurred in July 2013…
