Report Detail:

Hey it’s your opportunity  to assist a JOIFF member with a question relating to liquid flame traps or more accurately other types of technology in this space.  So if you have anything to offer please send copy for the archive at [email protected]

Many Thanks for your continued assistance to members questions…

Hello Kevin,

Dear Joiff members,

This year I have put several questions for peer assistance to JOIFF members as various stakeholders are working on an update of the 2008 tank storage guideline in the Netherlands.  Each time many of you have responded. This is much appreciated.  I intend to provide feedback to all of you in an article in the next Catalyst.  I have another question.

Discharge of liquids in the bund to tertiary containment – away from the fire – is one of the options for limiting the duration of bund fires.  The sewer system must be designed in such a way that transport of burning liquid is prevented.  I have seen the use of flame arrestors and siphons like designs in industrial sewers for this purpose. I mention sewer system, but it can also be a dedicated system.

My question is:  Have you encountered or used other “contraptions” or designs which can be used to prevent the transport of burning liquids via the sewer?

These liquids can be miscible and non-miscible with water.
