Incident Report

Subject:           UK - HSE Investigating Second Fire on Same Oil Rig

Date of Email report:   Fri 11/04/2014

Report Detail:

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating a second fire that’s taken place on the same North Sea oil rig this year.  On 6 April, a fire broke out on the Tiffany platform of an oil rig, which is operated by CNR International. The fire took 90 minutes to bring under control and the HSE is currently investigating the incident.    In January another fire took place on the same rig, which is also under investigation by the HSE. The Executive has issued two Improvement Notices in relation to the January fire. One of the notices requires the company to implement adequate measures to protect workers from fires and explosions.  An HSE spokesman said: ‘CNR informed us of a fire incident on the Tiffany platform on 6 April and HSE has sent investigators to the platform – we cannot comment further until the investigation is complete.   ‘HSE can also confirm two Improvement Notices were served in relation to a separate incident in January, but as one IN is still subject to an appeal period, no conclusions can be drawn as yet and we will not be making any comment until the appeal period is over.’
