Subject:         Venezuela - Outsourced Worker dies after Leak of H2S gas at Amuay Refinery

an ex-worker of Amuay and representative of the United Federation of Oil Workers of Venezuela (Futpv)

An outsourced worker was reported dead on Thursday after a leak of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) at refining complex Amuay, northwest Venezuela. The victim, aged 38, was working as a foreman for a firm called Atlas.   Although there is no information about how the accident took place, the man is said to have died after inhaling the gas while evacuating area.  "This unfortunate event shows that the Venezuelan oil industry is being operated by inexperienced people," said Iván Freites, an ex-worker of Amuay and representative of the United Federation of Oil Workers of Venezuela
