MEXICO – Explosion Sparks Massive Fire at Diesel Facility in Northern Mexico
A powerful explosion triggered a massive fire at a diesel processing facility in Cadereyta, Nuevo León, on Wednesday 21st of May, injuring at least one person and prompting evacuations, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred at a plant operated by the Marvic company, located about 25 miles east of Monterrey. The facility is involved in diesel distillation and houses large quantities of flammable materials.
Footage shared on social media captured the dramatic moment of the explosion—showing a fireball erupting, followed by thick black smoke and multiple secondary blasts as large fuel containers ignited.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene. One individual was injured and taken for medical treatment, while eleven others were evacuated as a safety precaution.
Nuevo León’s Civil Protection agency reported that at least 13 containers, each capable of holding over 10,000 liters of fuel, were consumed by the fire. What began as a reported commercial fire escalated rapidly due to the volatile materials present on site.
Fire crews from multiple departments coordinated to bring the blaze under control. Additional tanker trucks and water-pumping units were dispatched to maintain a continuous water supply during firefighting operations.
As of the latest update, the fire had not been fully extinguished, and the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of the damage.
Residents near the area were urged to avoid the zone and allow emergency vehicles unimpeded access.
