MEXICO – Pemex reports brief fire at Salina Cruz refinery, no injuries or operational impact

Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) reported that a small fire broke out Friday morning at the Salina Cruz Refinery in Oaxaca but was extinguished within minutes, with no injuries or damage reported.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. in the High Vacuum 1 area of Primary Plant 1. At the time, the facility was undergoing shutdown procedures ahead of scheduled maintenance work.

According to Pemex, the fire originated from a pore in the coil of the H-201-B Heater cell. Refinery personnel responded immediately, activating the appropriate operating and emergency procedures.

The facility’s firefighting team successfully extinguished the flame in less than six minutes. Pemex said the incident did not pose a threat to workers or affect the refinery’s operations.

Following the response, the refinery continued with its activities, and the company confirmed that no personnel were injured.

The fire occurred during preparatory manoeuvres for the refinery’s planned maintenance and was contained before it could develop into a larger emergency.
