USA – Fire Erupts at Dow Chemical Facility in Freeport, Texas
On Monday evening, a fire broke out at Dow Chemical’s Plant B within the Texas Operations facility in Freeport, roughly 60 miles from Houston.
Dow reported that the blaze was contained within a few hours. According to a Facebook post from Dow Texas Operations, all employees were accounted for and no injuries occurred.
“Our site leadership and emergency response team collaborated closely with local authorities and community partners to protect the safety of our site and surrounding areas,” the company stated. “We also extend our gratitude to our Emergency Services teams for their exceptional efforts.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Dow’s Freeport facility is the company’s largest integrated site, producing nearly half of the firm’s products sold in the United States and more than one-fifth of its global output, according to the company’s website.
This event marks the second plant fire in the Houston area on Monday. Earlier in the day, an explosion and fire at ONEOK’s Mont Belvieu facility resulted in three workers being hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
