USA – Texas City Refinery Fire Contained; No Injuries Reported

A fire that erupted Saturday afternoon at the Marathon Galveston Bay refinery in Texas City was brought under control within about an hour, with no injuries reported.

Timeline of the Incident

The Texas City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) first reported the fire at around 12:25 p.m. The incident occurred at the refinery on 5th Avenue South, east of 25th Street South. By 1:30 p.m., Marathon confirmed the situation was under control.

Emergency Response

Crews from the Texas City Fire Department responded promptly to the scene. Air support from Air 11 captured footage of thick black smoke that gradually lightened as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. In addition, air quality monitoring was initiated in the surrounding area as a safety precaution.

Marathon’s Statement

In an official statement, Marathon Petroleum confirmed that all personnel had been accounted for and that no injuries had been reported. The company emphasized that trained teams were responding to the fire and reiterated that the safety of workers, emergency responders, and the community was their top priority.

“Air monitoring is being deployed in the community as a precaution,” Marathon stated. “The safety of responders, workers and the community is our first priority as we respond to the situation.”

Investigation Ongoing

As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities have not released additional details pending further investigation.
