USA – Worker Dies, Three Injured in Texas Flour Mill Explosion
A deadly explosion at a flour mill in Dawn, Texas, on July 23 has left one worker dead and three others with serious injuries. The mill, located approximately 34 miles (55 km) southwest of Amarillo, is operated by Panhandle Milling.
Emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 4:00 a.m. following reports of an explosion. The Amarillo Fire Department, along with the Dawn Volunteer Fire Department and other local units, arrived to find active flames and widespread debris.
Firefighters quickly contained the blaze and extinguished several surrounding brush fires. While emergency responders treated three injured workers on-site and transported them to nearby hospitals, the severity of their burn injuries has not yet been disclosed.
Once the scene was secured, firefighters conducted a search inside the facility and discovered the body of 36-year-old Melissa Mungia, an employee of Panhandle Milling.
The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a division of the U.S. Department of Labor.
