USA – Worker injured in explosion at Michigan plastics facility

Emergency crews responded to Franklin Plastics in Battle Creek, Michigan, US, after an explosion and fire broke out at the facility on 28 September 2026.

Heavy smoke was reported coming from an open bay door when firefighters arrived at the commercial building on Hill Brady Road. One worker was injured in the incident, suffering significant burns and requiring hospital treatment.

The Battle Creek Fire Department said that damage appeared to be restricted to machinery and the area immediately around the affected equipment.

The explosion occurred shortly after 15:30. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) is now investigating the incident. The agency has not commented while the investigation remains ongoing.
