USA – Fire erupts on container vessel at Port of Los Angeles

A fire erupted below deck on the container ship ONE Henry Hudson, the vessel was berthed at Berth 218 in the Port of Los Angeles. The U.S. Coast Guard reports that the blaze has since been confined to a single cargo hold, with coordinated support from fire boats from both Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Incident and Initial Response
At about 8 p.m. on 21 November, emergency crews from the Coast Guard, the Los Angeles Fire Department, and the Port of Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of smoke and flames coming from the ship’s lower levels. Upon arrival, responders verified the safety of all 23 crew members with support from Port Police and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. No injuries were noted.

Vessel Relocation and Ongoing Efforts
Following the initial response, the ship’s crew assisted authorities in moving and anchoring the vessel outside the port to allow safer firefighting operations. They then continued to work alongside response teams to contain the fire within the affected hold.

Current Status
By 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, officials confirmed that the fire had been isolated to a single cargo hold. The vessel is now positioned at an anchorage approximately one mile offshore near Angel’s Gate Lighthouse while suppression efforts continue.
