UK – Major Fire Sends Smoke Across Corby as Emergency Crews Tackle Recycling Blaze

A major fire involving around 500 tonnes of mixed recycling waste has broken out at an industrial site in Corby, sending a large plume of smoke into the sky and prompting a major emergency response.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Earlstrees Industrial Estate on Gretton Brook Road shortly before 2pm on Monday, 10 August.

More than 10 fire engines have been deployed to the scene, alongside specialist firefighting vehicles and two aerial appliances. Crews are working to bring the blaze under control and protect nearby industrial premises.

Northamptonshire Police are supporting the emergency operation, with roads around the affected section of the industrial estate closed while firefighters tackle the incident.

People have been urged to stay away from the area.

The cause of the blaze remains unknown. There has also been no official confirmation of any injuries.

Once the scene is safe enough to examine, fire investigators are expected to investigate where the blaze started and determine its likely cause.

The extent of damage to the industrial premises and the identity of the business involved have not yet been officially confirmed.
