INDIA – Fire Contained at ONGC Offshore Platform Near Mumbai, No Injuries Reported

A fire at an offshore oil and gas installation operated by India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) near Mumbai was brought under control on Monday, with no injuries reported. The incident occurred at the NQG platform in the Mumbai High field after a gas cooler finger reportedly ruptured on Process Gas Compressor C (PGC-C).

According to sources, personnel working at the neighbouring NQO platform responded to the incident and spent more than an hour tackling the fire before it was contained.

The NQG installation forms part of ONGC’s offshore operations in the Arabian Sea, approximately 160 km from India’s western coastline. It handles natural gas processing before the gas is transported to the mainland. An ONGC official confirmed that a fire had occurred but stated that operations had not been affected.

Mumbai High is India’s largest offshore oil field and a significant source of the country’s domestic crude oil production. The field is divided into two sections: Mumbai High North (MHN) and Mumbai High South (MHS).

The neighbouring NQO platform processes more than 40,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Based on prevailing oil prices, an outage at the facility could result in an estimated daily revenue loss of around ₹4 crore for ONGC.
