CHINA – Vehicle Carrying Ammonium Nitrate Explodes After Highway Crash, Two Killed

Authorities have launched an investigation after a vehicle transporting ammonium nitrate exploded following a traffic collision on National Highway 331 in East Ujimqin Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on Sunday.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:27 a.m. when the vehicle carrying the chemical, commonly used in fertilizers and industrial explosives, collided with another vehicle before exploding. Two people were killed in the blast, while one person was injured at the scene.

The explosion’s shockwave also damaged several nearby vehicles, leaving three additional people injured. All four injured victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Public security officials and traffic police responded promptly to secure the area and begin preliminary investigations. A special task force has since been established to determine the cause of the collision and coordinate the ongoing response.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
