IRAN – Nitrogen Tank Explosion at Iran’s Tabriz Refinery Injures Eight

A nitrogen tank explosion at the Tabriz oil refinery in northwestern Iran injured eight people on Sunday the 29th.

The blast occurred due to increased pressure and a technical fault inside the tank, which caused heavy smoke to rise over the facility. Despite the explosion, the refinery continues to operate normally and no fatalities were reported.

Iranian state media confirmed that the refinery remains fully functional and that the injured individuals suffered only minor injuries.

Earlier the same day, local crisis management officials told state media that two blasts heard in Tabriz were unrelated to the refinery accident. Instead, they were the result of Iranian security and military forces safely disposing of unexploded Israeli ordnance.

“This operation was conducted under strict supervision, and there is no reason for the public to worry,” an official assured residents.

Initial investigations suggest that the nitrogen tank explosion was an isolated technical incident and does not pose any further risk to the refinery’s operations or the surrounding area.
