MEXICO – Pemex Reports Minor Fire at Dos Bocas Refinery After Crude Oil Leak
A minor crude oil leak at Pemex’s 340,000-barrel-per-day Dos Bocas refinery early Monday sparked a small fire and produced black smoke, according to the Mexican state-owned energy company. The incident was brought under control quickly, with no impact on refinery operations.
Pemex said emergency response procedures were activated immediately, allowing the refinery’s firefighting team to extinguish the flames promptly. The company confirmed that no injuries were reported and that the facility continues to operate under normal conditions.
In a separate incident on Monday, Pemex also reported containing a fire at its 220,000-barrel-per-day Salamanca refinery in Guanajuato. The fire occurred after heavy rainfall caused flooding that overwhelmed part of the refinery’s drainage system.
The latest incidents add to a series of operational challenges across Pemex’s refining network this year. Earlier this month, a fire at the 330,000-barrel-per-day Salina Cruz refinery in Oaxaca left three workers injured. The facility has also experienced several fuel oil pipeline leaks in recent months.
