SPAIN – Investigation Continues After Fatal Incident at Vibrantz Plant in Laudio
Authorities in Spain are continuing to investigate a fatal workplace accident at Vibrantz Performance Pigments’ facility in Laudio, Álava, following a furnace explosion that resulted in the death of an employee.
The Basque Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Osalan) and the Labour Inspectorate have been tasked with examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. No official determination regarding the cause has yet been released.
The explosion occurred during the early hours of 9 June 2026 at the company’s industrial site in the Areta area of Laudio. Emergency services responded after receiving reports of an explosion involving furnace equipment within the facility.
Basque regional police confirmed that one worker died at the scene. According to reports from local media citing union officials and employee representatives, the individual worked in maintenance and was carrying out duties near the furnace when the explosion took place.
Following the accident, operations at the plant were temporarily suspended. The incident has also prompted demonstrations by employees, who are calling for a thorough investigation and enhanced workplace safety measures.
While Vibrantz has acknowledged the occurrence of the incident, the company has not provided additional public statements. Investigations by the relevant authorities remain ongoing.
