THE NETHERLANDS – Fire Breaks Out Aboard Crew Transfer Vessel off Ter Heijde

A fire broke out in the engine room of the Condor, a small vessel used to transport personnel to and from cargo ships, while it was at sea off the coast of Ter Heijde on Tuesday evening.

Ten people were on board at the time, including seven passengers and three crew members. The crew responded immediately, using two fire extinguishers to bring the fire under control. Keeping the engine room hatch closed after extinguishing the flames helped contain the situation and prevent further spread.

With the passengers safely removed from the vessel, the Condor was able to continue towards Scheveningen under its own power. The vessel travelled with reduced engine power and was escorted by the lifeboat Kitty Rosmale.

Meanwhile, the lifeboat George Dijkstra took the seven passengers ashore in Scheveningen. All seven were unharmed and were temporarily accommodated at the KNRM boathouse.

Firefighters were waiting in Scheveningen to inspect the vessel when it arrived. Once the engine compartment was carefully opened, they confirmed that there was no longer any active fire and that the crew’s earlier intervention had successfully extinguished it.

The incident was brought under control without injury, with the crew’s swift action helping to prevent the engine room fire from developing into a more serious emergency.
